DADE CITY

The first sign that Sgt. Tim Harrelson wasn't making a routine traffic stop on Magnolia Avenue Saturday evening happened when Esequiel Garcia Jimenez, 23, handed him cigarette rolling papers instead of his driver's license, according to reports from the Dade City Police Office.

Matters got worse when the officer spotted what he believed to be marijuana on the center console of the vehicle Jimenez was driving and then found a packet of what appeared to be cocaine in his right hand as Harrelson was cuffing him. The officer also found another packet in the car, according to the report.

Jimenez, a native of Mexico who has been living in Georgia and does not have a driver's license, denied knowledge of the marijuana or the cocaine in his hand. He was arrested on drug possession charges and driving without a valid driver's license.

Jimenez remains in Land O'Lakes jail in lieu of a $6,000 bond.
