By EDUARDO A. ENCINA
Published April 9, 2007
Thumbs up
The pitching matchup between the Rays' Scott Kazmir and the Blue Jays' Roy Halladay lived up to its billing. Kazmir dominated early, but Halladay grew stronger as the game progressed and earned the victory.
Thumbs down
The Rays had Halladay on the ropes throughout his seven innings, but they were only 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Quote of the day
"The baseball gods can be cruel sometimes."
Rays manager Joe Maddon on Blue Jays 3B John McDonald, who was 2-for-4 and made a rally-killing play in the field in place of injured Troy Glaus.

Watch for ...
JACK IS BACK: Rays pitcher Edwin Jackson, above, makes his first start of the season. He hasn't pitched in 10 days, so the 23-year-old right-hander will have to shake off the rust against a dangerous lineup.
HITTING THE ROAD: Tonight's game is the first of a seven-game trip to Texas and Minnesota, where the Rays were 0-7 combined last season. This presents an incredible opportunity for the Rays to reverse their road troubles.
