School chorus will get to go to Carnegie Hall

Published April 9, 2007

The Clearwater High School chorus is heading to Carnegie Hall. Residents and business owners, who read the chorus was thousands of dollars short for their trip to New York in a March 24 Times story, have sent $4,000 for the chorus to put toward its expenses for their trip to perform at the legendary concert hall in May. Chorus director Pam Murphy said that her mailbox was full of letters and donations when she returned to school after spring break. "We're on our way," Murphy said, "This is the best thing that's ever happened." Murphy said contributions have ranged from $5 to $500, with many donors asking to remain anonymous. The chorus will perform on May 6 with the New England Symphonic Ensemble and several other high school and college choirs.
