3:28 p.m.: An hour before today’s public memorial service for Ch. 8 meteorologist John Winter, at least 50 people had filled the pews at Hyde Park United Methodist church.

A white hearse was parked outside and white flowers lined walkways. Tissue boxes lined many of the red pews and bouquets of flowers were carried up to the stage.

The service is titled “The Witness of Christian Hope, a Service of Worship to the Glory of God Celebrating the Life of John David Winter.”

Earlier in the day, Winters family and close friends held a private service.

A public memorial will be held today for John Winter, the WFLA-Ch. 8 weatherman who died Thursday of an apparent suicide. The service begins at 4 p.m. at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W Platt Street, Tampa.

Instead of flowers, his family requests donations be made in Winter's name to these organizations that reflect his longtime passion for helping children and animals: the Rough Riders Teddy Bear Drive, P.O. Box 75892, Tampa, FL 33675, and Hillsborough County Animal Services, P.O. Box 89159, Tampa, FL 33689.

When you are depressed you don't realize how many do love you, including those animals and children he helped. It is so sad no one could help him in his time of need.God shine upon him. An angel for sure.

Let him continue to do good where he is with God shining upon him. It is a shame no one could help him, or he couldn't hear them. He seemed like such a nice, guy and always seemed happy with such a nice smile, and did so much for others.God Bless
