Class 2A-11
When/where: Thursday. Field events and preliminaries start at 1 p.m. at Berkeley Prep.
Teams: Arcadia DeSoto County, Bradenton Braden River, Clearwater Central Catholic, Englewood Lemon Bay, Lennard, Newsome, Sarasota Cardinal Mooney, St. Petersburg Catholic, Spoto, Wauchula Hardee
Outlook: For years, St. Petersburg Catholic's boys have had the misfortune of being in the same district as Jesuit. Not anymore. The Barons, ranked 72nd in the state regardless of classification by flrunners.com, are led by Kevin Harley (800 meters) and Jaggar McDonald (high jump). SPC's girls also are in a more favorable district now that the Barons no longer compete with Academy of the Holy Names.
Class A-9
When/where: Thursday. Field events and preliminaries start at 1 p.m. at Indian Rocks Christian.
Teams: Bayshore Christian, Bishop McLaughlin, Calvary Christian, Cambridge, Indian Rocks Christian, Northside Christian, Seven Rivers Christian, Tampa Baptist, Tampa Prep
Outlook: Northside Christian's boys won the Bay Conference last week, edging Keswick Christian 120-118. The Mustangs are dominant in the sprints. The Crusaders are strong in the field events. The schools likely will battle each other for the girls title.
Class A-11
When/where: Friday. Field events and preliminaries start at 2:30 p.m. at Shorecrest.
Teams: Admiral Farragut, Bradenton Christian, Bradenton St. Stephen's Episcopal, Keswick Christian, Sarasota Christian, Sarasota Out-of-Door, Shorecrest
Outlook: Admiral Farragut's boys have won five district titles in the past six seasons. To win another, the Blue Jackets will have to find a way to make up for the loss of Bernard Scott, a point-scoring machine who graduated. That shouldn't be a problem considering AFA always has depth. On the girls side, Shorecrest has won two straight district titles. The Chargers have the numbers to keep the streak going. Their top scorer is Samantha Specht, who is favored to win the triple jump and 400 meters.
