Amy Richards, author, activist and consultant, will present Barbies and Boycotts: the Future of Feminism at 7:30 p.m. today in the Raymond James Room at Fox Hall. Richards was named one of 25 Young Visionaries by Who Cares magazine.
Barbara Ferguson, Arab News bureau chief and co-chair of the National Press Club's International Correspondents Committee, will speak on Arab Culture and Islam: An Embedded Journalist's Perspective at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Raymond James Room at Fox Hall. In 2003, Ferguson was an embedded war correspondent with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Iraq.
The Festival of Cultures, a celebration of the countries and cultures represented in the college's student body, will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Fox Woods. Event includes food, music and displays.
David Lynch's 2006 film Inland Empire will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Auditorium. Laura Dern plays an actor whose life begins to mimic the film she's starring in.
Sophomore Show: Portfolio Qualifying Exhibition opens with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Gallery. Regular hours are 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. There will be a Gallery Talk at 3 p.m. April 18. Call 864-8340 for information.
Hieromonk Jonah (Paffhausen), abbot of the Monastery of St. John the Wonderworker, will present the Mystical Roots of Ancient Christianity and Their Persistence in the Present at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Galbraith Marine Science Auditorium. Hieromonk Jonah is editor of Divine Ascent: A Journal of Orthodox Faith and the author of a forthcoming book on Hesychasm, the mysticism of the Orthodox East.
Gary Nash, professor emeritus of history and director of UCLA's National Center for History in the Schools, will present Could Slavery Have Been Abolished in the Revolutionary Era? at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Raymond James Room at Fox Hall. Nash is Phi Beta Kappa visiting scholar at Eckerd.
