40th birthday will feature Spring Hill idol

A bash celebrating Spring Hill's 40th birthday is being planned for Sept. 22-23 at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave., the site of the original sales office for Spring Hill. Organizers are looking for arts and crafts makers, food vendors, local talent, and business and health care vendors. The event will include a Spring Hill Idol contest, Little Lords and Ladies contest and Spring Hill Pie Bake-Off. For information, call Bev or Donna at 683-7668.

Two men rob Hess Express

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is looking for two men who robbed a Hess Express in Spring Hill shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. Wielding an aluminum bat, a man demanded cash from an attendant at the gas station at Mariner Boulevard and County Line Road. The robbers escaped in a white, four-door vehicle driven by a white male with dark, curly hair. The car went east on County Line Road. The man wielding the bat is described as a white male in his 40s, 5 feet 10 and 190 pounds, wearing a white baseball cap. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Phillip Lakin at (352) 754-6830. Anonymous tips can be made to the Hernando County Crime Stoppers at (352) 797-8477.

Brooksville

Show fairgoers how you dance

Dancers are invited to show off their skills at the Hernando County Fair's dance contest at 1:30 p.m. April 28. The cost to enter is $5 per contestant. Payment and completed applications must be received by the fair office, 6346 S Broad St., by Friday. A CD containing the music to be used must accompany the registration form. Music must be approved; competitors without pre-approved music will not be permitted to perform. Categories are: hip-hop/rap, freestyle, country line, country couples or ballroom. Groups are limited to eight dancers. For information, call the fair office at 796-4552.

Sunday is the deadline to apply for a scholarship with the Hernando County Business and Professional Women. High school and college students, including previous scholarship recipients, are eligible.
