2 men accused of molestation

One, a convicted sex offender, is charged with molesting a 16-year-old relative.

Published April 12, 2007

TAMPA - A convicted sex offender released last year from prison was arrested again this week and charged with molesting a 16-year-old relative and her 13-year-old friend.

And sheriff's deputies arrested a Tampa man on 14 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child Tuesday, accusing him of fondling two girls, 8 and 9 years old.

Mark Allen Browder, 36, of 1922 N 59th St., Tampa, remained at the Orient Road Jail Wednesday without bail, where he has been since his arrest on Monday.

He's been charged with six counts of lewd or lascivious molestation on a victim under the age of 18 and three counts of sexual battery.

Tampa police detectives are looking into whether there are other victims.

Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said that the mother of the 16-year-old girl called officers on Sunday after her daughter told her she and a 13-year-old friend had been molested while the two girls and another 13-year-old girl were having a sleepover Friday.

McElroy said Browder is accused of taking the girls to another relative's home, getting them drunk on wine coolers, giving them gifts and molesting two of them.

One of the 13-year-old girls drank so much that she passed out, McElroy said. Otherwise, police believe she also might have been molested.

Detectives later learned that Browder had had sex with the 16-year-old relative on at least three other occasions.

He was released from Florida State Prison in August, having served seven years for molesting and impregnating a 16-year-old girl, police said.

"This is obviously a very dangerous man," McElroy said. "This is a man who belongs behind bars and that's where he is tonight."

Detectives are looking into whether Browder has had sexual contact with other minors since his release from prison. Anyone with information about other incidents involving Browder was asked to call Tampa police at (813) 231-6130.

Hillsborough sheriff's deputies also arrested a Tampa man on Tuesday and charged him with 14 counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies said William D. Yeager, 23, with no known address, was at the home of two girls, ages 8 and 9, when he was found in the younger child's bedroom touching her inappropriately. The girls' aunt noticed the bedroom door partly closed while walking down the hall, and found Yeager inside touching her niece.

During an interview, deputies said, they learned that Yeager had touched both girls at different times between April 1 and his arrest Tuesday.
