CLEARWATER A Clearwater man who broadsided a police cruiser last week, seriously injuring an officer, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving under the influence. Tests showed David Brent Lloyd's blood-alcohol level was 0.263 and 0.265 percent, more than three times the level at which Florida presumes impairment. Lloyd, 44, also was cited for running a stop sign and failing to wear a seat belt, police spokesman Wayne Shelor said. Police say Lloyd was driving an Isuzu Rodeo east on Rainbow Drive at about 2 a.m. April 4 when he ran the stop sign at Hercules Avenue and hit a cruiser driven by Officer Scott Dawson, 43. Dawson suffered a fractured vertebra in his neck but no paralysis. He recently left the hospital but faces months of recovery at home, Shelor said. Seven had bowed out for various reasons, including surgery, a new baby and a trip to visit soldiers in Iraq, said writer/director Jim Fitzpatrick of Seminole. Still, there are a few tough guys.
