Success adds up for Middleton math team

Middleton High School's Mu Alpha Theta team is on a winning streak at regional competitions.

They placed first in geometry, algebra II and precalculus last month at the district's Math Bowl. Up next is a state convention April 20 and 21 in Orlando.

"Everything's falling into place," said team coordinator Kim Woolfenden. Woolfenden built the team at the math, science technology magnet, which reopened in 2002.

Middleton students compete statewide every other Saturday from December through April and practice by taking old math tests after school two days a week. They've competed nationally in Hawaii and Colorado, placing 14th and 15th. This July the national competition comes to Tampa. To compete, students must pay $600 each. To help fund a needy student, call Kim Woolfenden at 233-3360 ext. 257.
