ST. PETERSBURG - At Tyrone Middle School, Charles F. Taylor was a popular social studies teacher.
But in his Largo home, unbeknownst to family and colleagues, Taylor had amassed a vast library of pornography, including several videos depicting children performing sex acts, authorities said Thursday.
Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Taylor on Wednesday night and confiscated his home computer and more than 500 pornographic videotapes. Officials have found no evidence that Taylor created the films or victimized any of his students.
Taylor, 36, faces eight charges related to possessing and distributing child pornography, but agents said they had not thoroughly examined all of the seized evidence. He was being held in the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $80,000 bail.
FDLE agents began investigating Taylor in early March after visiting a Web site where people share and exchange pornographic videos. They said they were then able to identify Taylor through his Internet provider.
