TAMPA - Jesuit earned its ninth-straight district title and qualified 16 individuals plus one relay team at Thursday's meet at Berkeley Prep
"I'd love to see 10 (titles)," Jesuit coach Ray Rodriguez said. "I'd love to see 15, to see 20 - I hope I'm around that long. I was coaching at Jesuit starting in '95-96. I ran for them in the early '90s and to be a part of this is a great feeling."
Conner Revord headlined a Tigers squad that won six events and placed second in seven. The sophomore won the 3,200 (9:50.36), 1,600 (4:29.32) and ran the anchor leg on the 4x800 gold-medal team (8:12.40).
Jesuit, which finished with 168 points, 53 better than second-place Zephyrhills, had nine individuals qualify in field events.
Berkeley Prep qualified two relay teams and 12 individuals to finish third (106.5 points). Robinson (three individuals, two relay teams) tied Pasco for fifth (54 points) and Tampa Catholic had two individual qualifiers and one relay team to finish seventh (35).
The girls side was much closer, but Academy of the Holy Names prevailed thanks to a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay. Berkeley Prep failed to place in that event and finished second, 15 points behind Academy (141 to 126).
"We thought it would be close between Berkeley, Hernando and us," Academy coach Kelly Griffin said. "We seem to have the sprinters, they seem to have the distance. We were hoping to get some extra points in the field events and we did. Lauren Pacetti - it was the third time competing in the long jump for her and she finished third. We had two girls place in the discus, and last year we didn't have anybody place. It's coming together."
Academy had 14 individuals and three relay teams advance to regionals. Berkeley Prep had 12 qualifiers plus one relay team. Hernando was third with 767 points.
