Accident at home silenced her song

PINELLAS PARK - Edna Forsberg loved to sing. The 90-year-old and her friends at Summerville Retirement Center would often gather on the front drive for impromptu sessions, singing classics by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. In fact, that's why she was outside Friday when the stucco ceiling of the two-story portico collapsed, crushing her under the debris. She had been waiting for a friend to join her for a singing session. The collapse injured three other residents and a maintenance worker who tried to free Mrs. Forsberg from the rubble. Mrs. Forsberg was born in Beardsley, Minn., and came to Pinellas Park in 1959 from Ocala with her husband, Carl. She took care of the house while he performed with The Two Swedes. After Carl died in 2000, Mrs. Forsberg lived alone before moving to Summerville in October, her daughter, Janice Hall, said. Mrs. Forsberg worked for 25 years at the former Della Mack's Catering in St. Petersburg. Family and friends planned to gather Tuesday to celebrate Mrs. Forsberg's life. She leaves behind a son, three daughters, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Edna was my second cousin, but always seemed more than that to me. I was so glad my husband and I were still here this winter so I could leave my last respects to her and her family. I loved her very much and her smiles will remain with me forever.

I am Edna's oldest grandchild. It was a terrible tragedy and shocking for our entire family and she will be greatly missed and remain in our hearts forever
