Eckerd College

Celebrate Earth Day at Earth Fest 2007 from noon-4 p.m. today at Hough Quad. The event will include music, food and activities. Hands On Recycling and Eckerd College Recycling will collect working or reusable electronics, such as desktop and laptop computers, monitors, cell phones, ink jet and laser cartridges, TVs, and other audio and video equipment.

Gita Sen, Sir Ratan Tata Chair professor at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, India, will discuss Ethical Challenges of Gender Equality in the Era of Globalization at 7:30 p.m. today in the Raymond James Room at Fox Hall. Sen is adjunct professor of population and international health at Harvard University's Faculty of Public Health.

Eckerd College poetry students will read from their work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lewis House. This is part of the Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College 25th Anniversary Public Forum Series.

The 2006 Australian film Ten Canoes will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Auditorium. Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil narrates this story about his own people of the Arafura Swamp region of Australia. The film, directed by Rolf de Heer and Peter Djigirr, is set both in traditional times before contact with white people and in mythological times 1,000 years ago. In Ganalbingu with English subtitles.

Carlton Ward - Conservation Photography: From the Edge of Africa to the Heart of Florida will open with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Gallery. The exhibition will be on display through May 18. Gallery hours are 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Ward, an environmental photojournalist, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Auditorium. St. Petersburg College

The St. Petersburg College Band will perform with clarinetist David Irwin and the Eckerd College Band at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Music Center. The program will include music by Percy Grainger, Charles Gounod, Gustav Holst, John Philip Sousa, Carl Maria von Weber and SPC graduate Stephen Montague. Call 341-4301.

The 27th annual Florida Suncoast Opera Competition will be held Saturday at the Music Center. College students and young professionals from throughout the state will compete from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. An opera concert, the final competition between seven finalists, will be at 7:30 p.m. Call 367-2975 or 895-4435.

St. Petersburg College
