Crist, Crotzer meet

Published April 18, 2007

As Gov. Charlie Crist walked back to his office Tuesday, a visitor was waiting: Alan Crotzer, the St. Petersburg man who spent more than 24 years in prison for a double rape conviction before DNA evidence cleared him. Crist promised Crotzer, 46, he would sign a compensation bill.

Task force to meet again on Sarasota race

The three-member task force formed to investigate the disputed Sarasota area congressional election met Tuesday morning for more than 90 minutes behind closed doors.

Rep. Charles Gonzalez, D-Texas, the chairman, said the group will meet again in the next two weeks to decide whether to proceed with an investigation.

Republican Vern Buchanan was sworn in to the U.S. House in January, but Democrat Christine Jennings is disputing her loss in the courts and in Congress.

Jennings, who attended the meeting, said she was not disappointed with the outcome.
