TAMPA - Deanna Henriott threw a no-hitter, struck out 10 and keyed a five-run first with a two-run single Wednesday to lead St. Petersburg Catholic to a 10-0 win against host Berkeley Prep in five innings. The Barons face the Academy of the Holy Names, a 7-0 winner over Tampa Catholic, in today's 7 p.m. Class 3A, District 11 final.
Henriott (17-1), who entered with a 0.08 ERA, was sharp from the start and so were the SPC bats.
The top-seeded Barons (20-1) scored four runs in the first before recording an out. They finished with 13 hits, including a fourth-inning double by Chloe Saganowich that drove in two.
"We were coming off spring break, so it was important to try to get some hits," SPC coach Tommy Fabian said.
"I think they looked pretty good."
Second-seeded AHN (15-7) also played well. Pitcher Kayla Suskauer (13-7) scattered five hits and the Jaguars got solid production at the plate.
Becky Vyzas hit a three-run homer to center in the first, and Sara Drummond later drove in two with a triple.
The Crusaders had a chance to tighten the game in the fifth, but facing runners on first and third with one out, Suskauer struck out two straight batters to end the threat.
"I'm real pleased," AHN coach Roger Rivard said. "We hit the ball real well."
SPC is 2-0 against AHN this season.
