Dominators enjoy a perfect season

DOMINATORS ENJOY A PERFECT SEASON

The Brandon Dominators basketball team has completed a perfect season. Anchored by a fast-breaking offense and tough defense, the team won the championship of the Pee-Wee division of Hillsborough County's recreation league on March 25.

The team also went undefeated during the regular season, finishing 11-0. The players are Jimmy Blake, Danny Castillo, Elliot Hirn, Troy Johnson, Michael Levy Jr., Brett Lindbeck, Avery Strader, Troy Targent and Will Watson.

Brandon grad earns honors in Air Force

Brandon High School graduate Jeffrey Mason has graduated from Air Force basic training with the rank of airman.

Mason earned a ribbon for outstanding marksmanship and special recognition as the outstanding airman in his training flight.

After completing hydraulics training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, he will be stationed at Eglin Air Force Base near Fort Walton Beach.

Help honor injured, fallen firefighters

An event honoring firefighters runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Lowe's, 1515 E Brandon Blvd. The Dunkin' Brands Community Foundation has organized the event, intended to raise awareness of the 100 firefighters who die each year in the line of duty, and the 80,000 who are injured.

Local dignitaries, firefighters and surviving family members will speak at the event.

Bring your pooch to second annual PetFest

The St. Petersburg Times presents its second annual PetFest on Saturday at Dr. Ott's Off-Leash Dog Park. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features music, food vendors and a pet fashion contest.

The park is at SE 21st Street and SE Third Avenue.

'Ladies only' fashion show to help foster kids

Nearly 200 women will appear in the YMCA's ninth annual Fashion Show on May 5 at the Palmetto Club in FishHawk Ranch. The "ladies only" event features more than 40 women from the Greater Brandon community, plus many more contestants. Tickets are $50 per person and benefit the YMCA's Y Girls Rule program, which helps girls ages 12 to 17 in foster care programs. Call 685-5402.

Join discussion on traffic problems

Hillsborough County will hold a public meeting to discuss traffic problems along Summer Springs Drive to Balm Riverview Road.

A possible solution could be installing speed humps. A recommendation to the County Commissioners will be based on this meeting.

County staff will be available to discuss the details of the project and answer questions.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria at Summerfield Elementary School, 11990 Big Bend Road.
