HARTline bus routes are now serving the new Wal-Mart Supercenter as an added convenience to Sun City Center residents who are forbidden from driving their golf carts across U.S. 301.

The store, which opened Wednesday at U.S. 301 and State Road 674, will have a bus stop serving routes 35 LX and 87.

Route 87 will continue to serve the Publix at the northwest corner of the intersection but route 35 LX will not, according to Hillsborough Area Regional Transit.

The transit agency, known as HART, worked out a deal with Wal-Mart to get a stop for its buses after the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office told residents with golf carts they could not cross U.S. 301 for safety reasons, HART officials said.

The new Wal-Mart, which replaces one in Ruskin, stands at 207,950 square feet and offers shopper friendly features such as wider aisles, lower shelving and navigational signs, according to company officials.

Catering to neighboring Hispanic residents in Wimauma, the store also will carry an expanded selection of Latino items, including food, baked goods, music and movies. Shoppers who like to golf will find an expanded number of accessories in the sporting goods department.
