St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 4843 Mile Stretch Road, is offering free lessons on scrapbooking and how to create greeting cards from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Men's Group will host the breakfast that features scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice and coffee or tea. Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex, Collier Parkway, will host the National Day of Prayer Luncheon, sponsored by Christian Social Services at noon May 3. There will be a freewill offering collected to benefit those helped by CSS. Call (813) 995-0088.
First United Methodist Church, 5209 Land O'Lakes Blvd., will have Larry Johnson, the congregational leader of the Shoresh David Messianic Congregation, as the guest speaker at 10:30 a.m. April 29. He will give a demonstration of the blowing of the shofar, a ram's horn and an instrument of ancient and modern Hebrews. The shofar was a priestly instrument in biblical times. He will speak about the history of the horn from the time of Abraham to the final trumpet blast. During the service he will demonstrate the four types of shofar notes and tell the different meanings of each set of notes. A picnic will be held on the grounds after the service. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 20735 Leonard Road, will present a message by vicar Ross Engel at the 8, 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday. The theme of his message is "Turn Here." At 3 p.m., the fifth- to seventh-graders will meet for games and fun at 6 p.m. Students in eighth to 12th grades will have outside activities and a Bible study. The Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs, 4651 Little Road, will have a birthday gathering at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Founders Hall. The Morning Circle of the church will host the celebration.
