PORT RICHEY - The letters were chilling. Three families in the Gulf Harbors Community received them, each detailing how the anonymous writer would sexually abuse and kill their children - "the boys."

The writer said things like: "I think I will catch me one and drag him to the woods and play with him."

The author also said he had photographed the children.

Walter Van Peteghem, a 45-year-old from Port Richey, was arrested Friday on charges of writing the letters, which were sent in February.

He is being held in the Land O'Lakes jail in lieu of a $60,000 bail. He is charged with three counts of written threats to kill or injure. A Pasco County Sheriff's Office report said Van Peteghem was traced by DNA evidence on the letters.

Man strikes trees with van and dies

DADE CITY - A 62-year-old man died Friday morning after his van crossed the median and opposite lanes of U.S. 301 and plowed into the woods, where his van struck several trees.

William D. Crawford, who drove a 2006 Honda van, was from Auburndale. The Florida Highway Patrol report does not give any information on what caused Crawford to drive off the road.

The accident happened a little after 10:30 a.m. near Desrosier Road.
