Students wanted for arts festival

Hernando County students are invited to participate in the Hernando County Fine Arts Council's 23rd annual Art, Craft and Music Festival, which will be May 5 and 6 at Tom Varn Park in Brooksville. Opportunities are available for public, private and home-schooled students from elementary through high school. Cash prizes will be awarded: $100 for first place, $75 for second and $25 for third place in different levels. Displays of multiple pieces of art are welcome. Adults can receive scholarship award

Adults receiving a high school diploma or who passed the GED test since May 1, 2006, may apply for a Hernando Adult Community Education Scholarship award. Applicants should demonstrate quality performance in academic achievement, essay, community service and/or work ethic. The nominee must also enroll in a participating accredited community college, university or vocational school. Application packets are available at HEART Adult Literacy, 801 N Broad St., Brooksville, and must be submitted to Denise Moen at HEART by 3:30 p.m. May 11. For information, call 797-7018.

Crime Watch hosts rummage sale

Damac Estates Crime Watch will host a flea market/rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at New Covenant Baptist Church, 11014 Broad St. Vendor spaces are available for $10 bring your own table.
