Newsome's Parker puts hurt on Wharton

VALRICO - Some might call Newsome pitcher Kyle Parker's two-hit shutout in the Wolves' 7-0 victory over Wharton in the 5A-8 semifinals meticulous -- maybe even surgical. But surgical may be more appropriate for Parker's pregame activities Wednesday.
After getting hit on the left index finger while attempting to bunt in Newsome's 8-0 win against King on Tuesday, Wolves coach Chad Haschel was concerned his junior southpaw might be unable to make the start.
"We didn't know as of 11 o'clock today whether or not he could go," Haschel said. "They were draining blood out of his finger all day."
Draining blood using a home remedy. "We took a pin and lit it on fire and stuck it through the nail and let it drain the blood," Parker said.
The Wolves also got a lot of help from leftfielder Matt Greer, who had an RBI double in the third and a two-run homer in the Wolves' four-run seventh.
In the second game, Bloomingdale pulled out a 5-4 win against Brandon in the bottom of the seventh when Jeff Simpson scored on a two-out error after the Eagles had scored two-runs in the top half of the inning to tie the game.
