County commissioners have hired a Thonotosassa contractor to build a 4-mile water pipeline through several Brandon neighborhoods. Crews from Dallas 1 Construction and Development will start the $11.6-million project this summer. The pipeline is a key part of plans to increase water pressure and boost water supplies as the eastern part of the county grows, Water Resources Services spokeswoman Michelle Van Dyke said. A new water treatment plant - slated for construction off Falkenberg Road north of State Road 60 - will pump 10-million gallons of water daily to homes and businesses in Brandon. To install the pipeline, crews will dig up sections of Williams Road, Dovefield Place, Sunny Hills Drive, Woodhaven Drive, Lakewood Drive, Alder Way, Alcoma Drive, Altoona Way, Amarylis Drive and Windhorst Road. Pipeline construction could start as early as June and will last for about a year. "It's going to have an impact on these neighborhoods, there's no doubt about it," Van Dyke said. "It's going to be messy, as any construction project would be." Crews will restore ripped up roads as quickly as possible, Dallas 1 president Paul Lancaster said, and the company will update residents on the project's progress in monthly meetings. "Whatever their concerns are, we'll get right on them," he said. Catherine E. Shoichet can be reached at cshoichet@sptimes.com or 813 661-2454.
