YMCA's 5K classic and 1-mile walk coming up Sept. 29

YMCA'S 5K CLASSIC AND 1-MILE WALK COMING UP SEPT. 29

Runners and anyone who wants to get in shape should mark their calendars for Sept. 29, when the YMCA hosts its annual 5K Classic. The event starts at 8 a.m. at Sabal Park, followed by a 1-mile fun walk at 8:15 a.m. Registration is $18 in advance or $20 on race day, and includes a T-shirt for the first 300 runners.

The 10-year-old event has raised more than $75,000 for the YMCA. Sabal Park is southwest of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Falkenburg Road. For information or sponsorship opportunities, call 685-5402.

Ballet plans auditions for summer program

The Brandon Ballet is taking applications for its Summer Intensive program, which runs June 4-23. Dancers ranging from ages 11 to 15 and older can learn the basics of ballet, jazz and modern dance in a class environment.

Auditions cost $20 and are held at 161 E Bloomingdale Ave.

The ballet company is also conducting classes in July with introductions to Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and other favorites. Call 684-4482 for information on either program.

 

Banker Woytowich now assistant vice president

Banker Richard Woytowich has been named an assistant vice president of the Bank of Tampa. He will oversee the branch offices in Brandon and FishHawk Ranch.

Woytowich's areas of expertise include personal financial services and consumer lending. He also serves on the board of the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance.

Meeting will address Creek View Drive woes

Traffic problems along Creek View Drive will be the topic of a May 3 public meeting. County officials will be on hand to answer questions and take residents' input. The possible solutions include the installation of speed humps. A recommendation to county commissioners will be based on this meeting, which will be at 6:30 p.m. at Rodgers Middle School, 11910 Tucker Road. Call 272-5275.

Big 'Guys and Dolls' cast to hold last show tonight

Tonight is your last chance to catch Guys and Dolls, performed by a cast of 40 students at Lithia Springs Elementary.

The musical about gamblers, con artists and their girlfriends debuted on Broadway in 1950 and later was made into a movie starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.

The cast has been rehearsing since October with Lecia McCarty, the school's musical director. The show starts at 6:45 p.m. at the school, 4332 Lynx Paw Trail. Call 431-5239.
