How vibrant is Tampa Bay's economy? Dynamic enough to lure India's ambassador from Washington, D.C. Ambassador Ronen Sen spoke Wednesday night at a reception hosted by the Indo-U.S. Chamber of Commerce. "I want to strengthen our ties," Sen said. India is the Tampa Port's second-largest trading partner. Sen said he hopes the country would soon clinch the top spot.

Embattled insurer posts $1.2M profit
Universal Health Care Insurance Co. announced a first-quarter profit of nearly $1.2-million Thursday for its HMO, which includes the company's Medicare Masterpiece and Masterpiece Plus plans. The St. Petersburg-based Medicare insurer insists it is financially solvent, but state regulators say a related Universal company with some 60,000 members in its Any, Any, Any plan remains "impaired" and needs at least $120-million in reserves. Universal is fighting to avoid liquidation to federal court, where a hearing is scheduled for May 7.

Citizens to expand small-biz coverage
Citizens Property Insurance Corp.'s board of governors Thursday approved a plan to expand its commercial property insurance coverage for small businesses across the state. Under the plan, state-backed Citizens will assume about 850 commercial policies June 1 from the Property and Casualty Joint Underwriting Association and begin writing, on a short-term basis, wind-only coverage for small commercial, nonresidential customers statewide. Citizens will provide up to $1-million in wind coverage to business owners with no more than $10-million of total insured value. By Sept. 1, Citizens will offer a commercial multiperil policy throughout the state that includes wind coverage.

Correction
Venezuela's Hugo Chavez was re-elected president in 2006. A Talk of the Bay item Monday mischaracterized his position.

Clarifications
- The Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau and St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area Convention & Visitors Bureau may explore joint advertising opportunities. A headline Thursday overstated the collaboration.
- The franchise of RE/MAX of Florida will become part of RE/MAX International in Denver, but the Florida offices will remain. A headline Thursday suggested otherwise.
