PALM HARBOR

FIRE AT VACANT HOUSE BRINGS OUT SIX ENGINES

A vacant house was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning. Palm Harbor Fire Rescue received a call about 3:30 a.m. about the fire at 813 Ninth St. Six engines, including one from Dunedin, responded to the blaze. After attempting to fight the fire from the inside of the two-bedroom home, firefighters pulled out because the roof was engulfed in flames. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 4:32 a.m. No one was hurt. Palm Harbor Fire Inspector Frank Lowman had not determined how much damage was caused at the structure. The home, which was built in the 1950s, had been vacant for months, fire officials said. Investigators believe the fire began in the attic and might have been caused by an electrical problem.
