RIVERVIEW - Sarasota used the long ball early and often to win another district title.
The top-seeded Sailors bashed five home runs and got a sterling pitching performance from Casey Kelly to shut out Durant 7-0 Thursday.
Sarasota started the bottom of the first with three consecutive home runs.
Shortstop Scooter Gennett led it off with a shot over the centerfield fence. Kelly followed with another to centerfield and Joe Terdoslavich gave the Sailors a 3-0 lead with a shot to right.
"Our power numbers have really improved the second half of the season," Sailors coach Clyde Metcalf said. "That was incredible. I've never seen that in my 26 years here."
Sarasota added a run in the first to chase Cougars starting pitcher JR Wright before recording a single out.
Meanwhile, the Cougars couldn't get anything going against Kelly, who allowed just two hits and struck out nine to stay perfect on the year at 9-0.
"Casey had everything going tonight," Metcalf said. "He was in total control. He made the pitches he needed to and never backed down."
Evan Stobbs and Kevin Crocker also homered for the Sailors.
