Falcons rally to repeat as champions
Down three runs early, Dunedin storms back to thump Tarpon Springs.
By BRANDON WRIGHT
Published April 28, 2007
DUNEDIN - After Tarpon Springs put three runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, Dunedin coach Tom Hilbert gathered his team before their first at-bats and made a simple request.
"I told them to just go out and answer with one, " Hilbert said.
Dunedin did just that - then tacked another "one" on for good measure.
The Falcons exploded for 11 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 21-5 win against Tarpon Springs in the district final at the Englebert Complex Friday.
It was the Falcons' second consecutive district title and eighth in 10 years under Hilbert.
"We wanted to come out and put pressure on them right away, " Spongers' coach Dan Genna said. "But then we made some errors and the wheels came off."
Dunedin, winner of 12 in a row, sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning. The Falcons capitalized on two Spongers' errors, drew six walks and collected five hits.
After scoring three in the second inning, Dunedin sent 13 batters to the plate and tacked on seven more runs in the third.
Cam Fisher (three RBIs) and Ryan Schneider (six RBIs) each had three hits for Dunedin, while Kevin Maloney and Ryan Faison added two apiece.

I was talking about the fight they got into last year, pretty pathetic..dunedin will always be a b rated team, honestly, look at the competition here compared to other counties..not that difficult, sure they are good, but only for their area.

You people dont follow baseball much do you. 98% of the kids on Dunedin's team played for Dunedin National or American Little League...Dunedin was great in baseall before Hilbert and will be after do your research then talk.

Can you hear the thunder from up north? The panhandle is full of clubs that will chew up any of the area teams. Forget Dunedin and Hilbert they will be appetizers for Pace, Niceville, Gainesville, Bartram Trail, etc. etc. etc. Get real! Dunedin hahah

It's only recruiting if you get caught! In 10 years noone has ever been able to make any accusations stick. So if Hilbert does recruit he's not only good at it but damn near genius in getting away with it.

Tarpon should not be embarrased. Their coach did a great job this season, he is a great guy and has a lot of baseball knowledge.
Dunedin is a bunch of cheaters. tom Hillbert is the best recruiter in high school baseball, hence cheater

Just wondering-how many State championships does the "best coaching staff in Florida" have? Undoubtedly they have had some of the best Teams! Jeff, are you on crack?Tarpon had a surprisingly good season but there are no more Pinellas Parks left!!

Cheaters??? Stop tearing down people and offer some positive thoughts. Hats off to Tarpon and Dunedin. Dunedin was supposed to win and to Tarpon who seems to have overachieved against bigger schools with better talent. They are merely kids already.

A agree about TS but can we say what we are all thinking about Dunedin. Recruited Team. Each year they add players who weren't there as freshmen. School choice will only make this worse.

Cheaters never win. Now who is laughing? T.S. should be embarrased by this loss.
