At Fort Myers, Seffner Christian's stellar season ended after a long drive to Southwest Florida Christian, which won the semifinal 3-1.

Seffner Christian finished the season 18-3. Southwest Florida Christian moves on with a 17-6 record.

Seventh-grade ace conquers Cambridge

ST. PETERSBURG - The games keep getting bigger and bigger, but Canterbury coach Jody Moore has no worries with a seventh-grader on the mound. Friday afternoon Jennifer Crosthwaite pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Crusaders (19-5) past Cambridge 3-0.

Both Moore and Crosthwaite said after the game, as long as the team plays defense and scores runs, the pitching will be fine. Such was the case when the team's other seventh-grade pitcher, Emily Winesett, won in region quarterfinal action Tuesday.

"Both of them are very composed young ladies, " Moore said. "The pitcher has her job and the other 13 (players) have their jobs."

The team got it done again. Macey Hall hit the leftfield fence for an RBI double in the first inning. Nora Brody doubled and scored in the second inning and Crosthwaite hit an RBI single in the sixth inning.

"I knew I had to get three outs to end the game and if we lost we'd be eliminated, " said Crosthwaite, who added two strikeouts in the seventh.

Cambridge (11-11) only had five base runners. Janellee Mascato and Kelsey Nussell had the only hits.
