Forbes' big swing in the sixth boosts Gaither

TAMPA - Right when Boone thought it had finally seized momentum, Gaither's Katie Forbes took it away with one quick swing.

The junior delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Cowboys a hard-fought 5-3 win over the Braves on Friday.

"I'm just glad that I got the ball on the ground and the third baseman couldn't get it, " Forbes said. "I knew she was going to come inside so I just tried to pull it."

Gaither (23-6) seemingly had control of the game until the sixth inning.

Boone (24-5) tied it up with back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Amanda Miller and Brandy Luke and a run-scoring single from Annie Sweat.

Braves starter Crystal Wisiak pitched out of trouble all night but allowed just three runs before being pulled for Kaitlyn Carey to start the bottom of the sixth.

Gaither's Morgan Grove went the distance, allowing just the three runs on seven hits and striking out five.

She also helped her cause with an RBI single in the first.

Forbes and Ketie Clemente each had a pair of singles for the Cowboys.

"We just want to do the best we can, " Forbes said. "Especially for our seniors."
