Winning lottery ticket purchased near Brooksville

Someone is a quarter-million-dollars richer after Friday night's Fantasy 5 lottery drawing, and the winning ticket was purchased locally. The ticket was sold at the Sunoco service station at 7179 Barclay Ave., west of Brooksville, according to Florida Lottery officials. Only one player matched all five numbers and will receive $262, 532.80. The winner's name was not available over the weekend. It was the second recent winning ticket sold in Hernando County. A Hudson woman purchased one of two winning Fantasy 5 tickets in late March from the Spring Hill BP Quick Pick on Commercial Way. BROOKVSILLE Cookbook sales aid scholarship fund Brooksville Regional Hospital Auxiliary will host a cookbook sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the hospital cafeteria, 17240 Cortez Blvd., west of Brooksville. The auxiliary will be selling copies of the Brooksville Garden Club's most recent cookbook, A Taste of Brooksville. A percentage of the sales will go to the Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. For information, call 596-9807 or 442-0169. Youth crisis shelter holds open house Youth and Family Alternatives hosts an open house at the New Beginnings shelter from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today. The shelter is at 18377 Clinton Blvd., off the State Road 50 bypass, behind the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. New Beginnings is one of three FYA runaway and youth crisis shelters. For information, call 797-7566. No summer school? Try cooking classes Cooking classes for children will be offered this summer through the Hernando County Recreation Department. Chef Trish will provide classes to children from 3 to 18 in various age groups. Participants will learn basic cooking skills, table setting and manners, eating styles, menu planning, healthy choices and the food pyramid. Classes will begin in June and will be offered for three hours a day for one week at the Recreation Department, 205 E Fort Dade Ave. The cost is $100 for the week.
