Falcons always flock together

DUNEDIN - Dunedin gathered for a cookout Saturday to celebrate its district championship win the night before - the Falcons' eighth in the past 10 years. The team mingled with parents, talking about their 21-5 win over Tarpon Springs. They made plans for a run at the state title, which begins tonight at 7 against Jefferson at Knology Park.

But when it came time for the six Falcon seniors to leave the cookout for Grad Night that evening, they balked.

"They just wanted to hang out with their team, " Dunedin coach Tom Hilbert said. "Even though it was time for them to go, they all just sat around in their lawn chairs and hung out."

It was a sign to Hilbert that this group was fully prepared to put the team before all else.

"I've had teams with more talent here but this might be the best team in terms of the team concept, " Hilbert said. "They really get it and pick it up, rather than fall apart, when adversity comes."
