President's commute won't spoil yours
President Bush heads to Tampa today, which usually means traffic snarls of presidential proportions. But this time he plans to fly in and out of MacDill Air Force Base and not venture into civilian territory. He will participate in a briefing at Central Command and then give a speech to a meeting of 43 countries involved in the Iraq war. More than an hour of his time at MacDill is not accounted for on his schedule. The White House hasn't said what Bush will be doing, but on other visits to MacDill, he has met with families of soldiers who were killed in the war. He returns to Washington late this afternoon.
Police sorry for horseplay
Ah, Florida: Sun, sand, surf and horse hockey. Not a pleasant mix to a Fort Lauderdale woman who got police to apologize after two of their horses left unwelcome material in the sand. Two officers on horseback rode from the street to the shoreline April 4, let their horses defecate, then rode back to the street, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. "I was appalled, disgusted, and fear for my and the health of all who enjoy our beautiful beach of Fort Lauderdale, " the woman wrote. Police apologized, saying the cops wanted to acclimate the animals to various environmental conditions.
