Downtown walking tour is planned Saturday

St. Petersburg Preservation has scheduled an additional walking tour of the downtown historic district in response to increased public interest. The regular monthly presentations run November through April.

The tour is led by Kai Warren and Peter Belmont and starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the fountain in Williams Park, Fourth Street and First Avenue N. The tour involves walking approximately 2 miles over a two-hour period. Reservations are not necessary. A donation of $5 is requested. Call 824-7802.


Exotic birds can be adopted at event

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tampa Bay will host a Bird Adoption Day with Safe Haven Avian Placement Services from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Dozens of exotic birds, from parakeets to cockatoos and everything in between, will be looking for new, loving homes.

Safe Haven, 9099 130th Ave. N, provides rescue and placement services for companion birds.

PSTA program gives students discount rides

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) will again offer its student "Haul Pass" this summer. The pass offers students unlimited travel on PSTA vehicles for $30 between May 15 and Aug. 25.

Students must have a $2.50 PSTA student identification card to use the Haul Pass.

The photo I.D. can be purchased at three locations:

- Williams Park Customer Service Center, 340 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg;

- Park Street Terminal Customer Service Center, 525 Park St., Clearwater;

- Central Plaza Customer Service Center, 3180 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.

The Haul Pass is available at the service centers and at all bus ticket locations.

Annual Bowl-a-thon will include auction

A.F.I.R.E. and the Father Lopez Council 5737 of the Knights of Columbus will host their 17th annual Bowl-a-thon May 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Ten Pin Lanes, 1453 Pasadena Ave.

Festivities will include an auction of items such as autographed photos of Dolly Parton, Faith Hill and Kenny Chesney; limited-edition commemorative Elvis Presley wine bottles; a commemorative football of the Bucs' Super Bowl win; and more.

If you have a developmentally disabled child and have questions, board members will be wearing the A.F.I.R.E. logo shirt and can assist with questions. Contact Mrs. Andree Ryan at 525-6608.


Daystar Life Center seeks volunteers

Daystar Life Center, 226 Sixth St. S, needs volunteer helpers. Assistance is needed in the pantry, as well as with administrative support.

The organization provides food, financial assistance and other basic necessities to families or individuals in need. Call 825-0442.


Seabird Sanctuary will hold sunset celebration

The Seabird Sanctuary will hold a sunset celebration on Saturday from 4 p.m. until sunset. There will be wild bird presentations, volleyball on the beach, and a sandcastle-building contest.
