Hazmat call to jail has a sweet ending

A suspicious package turned up in the mail room of the Pasco County jail just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll. It contained an unidentified white powder. Officials locked down the jail. They called the hazardous materials response team. And they discovered that the white powder was ... powdered sugar. The sugar was not blamed for any injuries.

Symposium to help youths find jobs
Young people and business leaders can find a way to connect Friday at a free employment symposium sponsored by Goodwill Industries-Suncoast. The event is part of Goodwill's Project Bridge youth employment program, which is aimed at helping at-risk youths find careers. The Youth Connections Symposium begins at 10 a.m. at Marchman Technical Education Center, 7825 Campus Drive in New Port Richey, and will feature a briefing to help local businesses understand how Project Bridge works as well as workshops and a job fair. Signup scheduled for kindergarten
Kindergarten preregistration will be held at all Pasco County elementary schools Monday. Parents or guardians registering children should call the designated school for specific times. Required documentation includes: original birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residency (i.e. electric bill), health exam on DH form 3040, certificate of immunization on DH form 680.
