Clearwater Central Catholic defeated Fort Myer Bishop Verot for the third time this season, this time 4-0 on Tuesday to reach the region semifinals, as Ryan Weber threw a two-hitter.

CCC, a Class 3A semifinalist last season, was scoreless in the first three innings. But a mix of poor Verot fielding and timely Marauder hitting accounted for two runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth. The first run scored on a Nick Leone single and a throwing error which allowed Leone to reach third. He scored on a wild pitch. In the fifth Jeff Iijas singled and scored on a passed ball and Ryan Acosta's single scored Sam Mende.

Weber was in control all night, racking up ten strikeouts. Backed by a solid defensive effort, Weber never allowed a runner past second base.

"Weber threw really well, and we played defense, " CCC coach Todd Vaughan said. "We played fine after we just focused on one run and didn't try too hard for the big inning."

CCC (22-4) plays at home Friday against Melbourne Central Catholic, which beat Mulberry.
