Entrepreneur to address Saint Leo grads

Entrepreneur Donald R. Tapia will be the featured speaker at Saint Leo University's commencement for its graduate program and the Center for Online Learning at 5 p.m. Saturday. Tapia, chairman and chief executive of EGM Inc. and ESSCO Wholesale Electric, will address the graduates. A member of the Saint Leo University board of trustees, Tapia received his bachelor's degree from Saint Leo in 2005 and will receive his master's of business administration at the commencement ceremony. More than 360 students from both programs will receive their degrees at the ceremony.
Connerton wins six building awards
Connerton, the 4, 800-acre development in Land O'Lakes, took six prizes at the 2007 Pasco Building Association Parade of Homes awards. Connerton, developed by Terrabrook, was named the overall best community of the year, according to the association. It also snagged awards for best neighborhood entrance, best community master plan, best community streetscape, best community amenities and best environmental sensitivity program. "It's such an honor to be recognized by our peers in this way, especially two years in a row, " said Stewart Gibbons, president of Connerton. When it's built out, the "new town" is expected to have 8, 500 homes.
Man shot in arm during break-in
Three men broke into a home at 32527 Seventh Ave. and fired a shot that hit another man in the arm, according to the Sheriff's Office. David Spriggs, 23, was in his bedroom and tried to hold the door closed to prevent the intruders from entering. He was hit by a bullet, according to reports. Spriggs then got his own handgun and fired shots back through the door. The intruders then fled through the front door. Spriggs' wife, Ilana Mumma, 23, was also at the home but was not injured. Deputies found a sandwich bag full of what appeared to be marijuana floating in the toilet at the home, according to sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin.
Ashton Brock was the first-place winner of the elementary level of the Tropicana Speech Contest held April 26. Because of incorrect information supplied to the Pasco Times, her name was misspelled in a story Wednesday.
