Brooksville Elementary

PTA'S GENERAL MEETING WILL BE MAY 14

Brooksville Elementary School will have its PTA general meeting at 5 p.m. May 14 in the school's art room. Nominations for the 2007-08 school year will be taken, and the election of officers will follow.

SPRINGSTEAD HIGH

Spectrum shows start tonight

The Springstead High School band will present its annual Spectrum concert at the school theater today, Friday and Saturday. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Spectrum is a concert and visual experience with film, dance, light shows and effects. Contact director Richard Dasher at 797-7010.

SUNCOAST ELEMENTARY

Parents can hear about projects

Several classes will be presenting projects to parents at Suncoast Elementary School. Mrs. Livingston's class participated in an online project, Square of Life. The class investigated a 1-meter square of ground outside the school and will compare and contrast findings with other students around the country. The students will present their results from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16 at the school. Mrs. Santos' and Ms. Cynowa's classes will also have a PowerPoint presentation at that time. Ms. Lamia's first-grade class will make a presentation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 8. Mrs. Hansen's and Ms. McCormack's classes will make their presentation from 6-7:30 p.m May 10. Academy opens larger library

Hernando Christian Academy has opened a new student library with twice the space of the previous library. The collection stands at 7, 658 books, including reference materials. The new library includes a storytime corner for younger students. Internet access stations are planned for the future.

DISTRICTWIDE

Hospital group gives scholarships

Ten Hernando County students planning to pursue medical careers received scholarships from Oak Hill Hospital's Volunteer Association. The students included: Melisa Beck of Wider Horizons School; Jessica Lynn Belt, Teresa Chimienti and Daniel Mannka of Springstead High; Karen Harris and Kim Patel of Hernando High; Aleyse Horn, Catherine Philips and Thomas Tagliavia of Central High; and Christopher VanLeuven of Nature Coast Technical High. Each received $1, 500 for tuition and books in the 200 7-08 school year. The scholarships are funded by revenue from the hospital gift shop and various fundraisers.

Learn all about entering 6th grade

West Hernando Middle School's incoming orientation for sixth-graders will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today. Students and parents are welcome.
