Largo junior running back Brynn Harvey, the 2006 Times Player of the Year, was offered a scholarship from the University of Central Florida on Thursday morning.

It was likely the first of many offers for the 5-foot-11, 205-pound bruising back. Harvey rushed for 1, 746 yards and scored 19 touchdowns last season; in two playoff games, he ran for more than 500 yards.

"UCF couldn't believe that nobody had offered him yet, " Largo coach Rick Rodriguez said.

Schools like Maryland have inquired, but most are waiting on Harvey's test scores. The senior-to-be has a 2.5 grade point average and is planning to take the SAT, Rodriguez said.

Harvey's teammate, junior quarterback/cornerback Leonard Johnson, received another offer Troy University, adding to his list of Mississippi, Mississippi State, Iowa and Iowa State.

The duo will have to pick up the slack for a strong senior class, including six recent signees: tight end/receiver Mike Helm (Methodist), offensive guard Shawn Deetz (Manchester College, D-III in Indiana), receiver Jacob Cole (John Carroll, D-III in Ohio), fullback Antonio Patterson (Dubuque, D-III in Iowa), offensive lineman Kyle Peters (Glenville State, D-II in West Virginia) and OLB Ozni Rhodes (St. Vincent, D-III in Pennsylvania).
