ESTERO - Jesuit is heading back into familiar territory.
The Tigers advanced to the region finals for the fifth consecutive season thanks to a gritty 7-5 victory at Estero on Friday.
Jesuit (24-5) never trailed, grabbing an early 2-0 lead thanks to an RBI double by senior shortstop Jonathan Koscso and an RBI triple by senior Stephen Hunt in the top of the first inning.
"That's exactly what we talked about doing, " Tigers coach Rich Warren said of the early scoring. "That showed me our guys were ready to go from the first pitch. We were able to relax after that."
Koscso made it 4-0 in the third inning, blasting a long home run over the centerfield fence.
Starter Matt Brazis cruised into the fifth with a 7-2 cushion, but quickly ran into trouble by loading the bases. Warren called on Hunt to take over. He surrendered a sacrifice fly and an RBI single but struck out the final two to minimize the damage. Hunt quelled another rally in the seventh.
"We put him in a tough spot and he came through for us, " Warren said of Hunt.
