Prince Abdul-Majid bin Abdul-Aziz, 65, the governor of the Islamic holy city of Mecca, died Saturday (May 5, 2007) in the United States after a long illness, a Saudi Arabian royal statement said. Mr. Abdul-Majid, the half brother of Saudi King Abdullah, was flown to the United States after sudden health deterioration, said the statement, which did not specify where in the United States he died.

 

J. Robert Bradley, 87, whose deep, octave-leaping voice and charismatic presence made him one of the most important figures in gospel music, died Thursday (May 3, 2007) in Nashville. He was the favorite singer of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mahalia Jackson once said Mr. Bradley had the greatest voice she had ever heard.

 

Gordon Scott, 80, a muscle-bound actor who portrayed Tarzan in the 1950s, died Monday (April 30, 2007) in Baltimore. He made 24 movies including Tarzan and the Lost Safari (1957), Tarzan's Fight for Life (1958), Tarzan's Greatest Adventure (1959) and Tarzan the Magnificent (1960). He was among a long line of actors, including Johnny Weissmuller and Larry "Buster" Crabbe, who portrayed Tarzan.

 

Cypriot Defense Minister Nicos Symeonides, 68, died Thursday (May 3, 2007) after being hospitalized for a month with lung problems, the government said. A lawyer and economist, he was appointed defense minister on Oct. 6, a month after the resignation of Fivos Klokaris.
