Tax office closed briefly for training

The Hernando County Tax Collector's branch office at 7489 Forest Oaks Blvd. will be closed from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday for training purposes. The office will reopen at 10:30 a.m. For information, call 754-4180.
Summer camp prepares parents
A parent orientation for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hernando County's upcoming summer camp will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at the club, 5404 Applegate Drive. The cost includes a $25 per family registration fee, a $30 activity fee per child and $50 per week per child. There is a $5 discount on the weekly fee for additional children. The theme of the camp is to "travel around the world" in 10 weeks. Each camper will be issued a passport and experience different countries. They will complete arts and crafts and sample popular foods from each country. The summer camp will also offer three programs to teach members healthy habits. NAMI seeks people to support parents
The National Association on Mental Illness/NAMI Hernando needs volunteers to become support group leaders for parents of children with mental illness. Training will be provided. Those interested can call Darlene at 686-0004. NAMI Hernando runs the Beautiful Mind, a consumer-run drop-in center at 10554 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. This is a self-help rehabilitation and recreation center for those with mental illnesses, and provides support groups, computer classes, bingo, arts and crafts, speakers and social activities.
Connect to county behind the scenes
Registration is open for the next County Connection program, which begins 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 14. The sessions will be conducted at county facilities. County Connection provides a behind-the-scenes look at county government. Sessions cover a series of topics pertaining to county services such as transportation, public safety, the budget, recreation and resources, judicial services, growth and development, and health and utilities services. The program includes audience interaction and allows participants to meet county officials. There is no cost to participate. To register, call Brenda Frazier at 540-6780.
