SPRING HILL

The Hernando County Green Party will host a series of free films on current issues at 6 p.m. Tuesdays through May 22, at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive.

The films include:

- May 8, Iraq for Sale - The War Profiteers

- May 15, Wal-Mart - The High Cost of Low Prices

- May 22, Fahrenheit 9/11. This film will start at 5:30 p.m. It is rated R and is for ages 18 and older. The purpose in revisiting Michael Moore's film is claims that the movie has inaccuracies. Anyone who can point out these inaccuracies is encouraged to attend.

BROOKRIDGE

Comedian and singer in concert May 10

For its final show of the season, Brookridge Entertainment will present singer and comedian David Glickman followed by singer Jeanne Alexis at 7 p.m. May 10 at the Brookridge Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

BROOKSVILLE

Mental health seminar is May 19

The National Alliance on Mental Illness/NAMI Hernando will host the 13th annual Mental Health Seminar from 1 to 4 p.m. May 19 at Springbrook Hospital, 7007 Grove Road.

There will be speakers from Springbrook Hospital, the Harbor Behavioral Health Care Institute, Hernando County Commission and Hernando County Health Department.

During the event, NAMI Hernando will honor the Hernando County Sheriff's Office's Crisis Intervention Training officers. CIT is a course for law enforcement officers that provides information on mental illnesses, medication, crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques and Baker Act procedures. Refreshments will be served. The seminar is free. For information, call Darlene at 686-0004. Also, in conjunction with the Mental Health Seminar, advertisements are being sold for the Souvenir Journal.

COUNTYWIDE

County officials to appear on TV show

County Administrator Gary Kuhl will discuss county government issues during a live broadcast of "Issues and Answers" at 7 p.m. Tuesday on Hernando County Government Broadcasting, Bright House cable Ch. 19.

Kuhl will speak with Business Development Director Mike McHugh and Emergency Management Director Tom Leto. Topics will include plans for the former Brooksville Regional Hospital building and Hernando County's preparations for the upcoming hurricane season.

Kuhl and his guests will answer call-in questions from viewers. The number to call with questions is 540-6777.

SPRING HILL

Keeping yard healthy subject of free class

Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service will offer a free class, "Florida-Friendly Landscape Maintenance, " at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Forest Oaks Government Center, 7479 Forest Oaks Blvd.

The class will be conducted by Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Coordinator John Korycki. With drought, pest problems, weed control and multiple other problems, landscape maintenance can become frustrating and time- consuming. Participants will learn how using Florida-friendly maintenance practices will greatly reduce the amount of stress and labor associated with landscape maintenance.

No registration is required. However, seating will be limited and will be addressed on a first come, first seated basis. For information, call 754-4433.
