Few trophies left missing for Tiger

Other than the sheer compilation of numbers - and, of course, the pursuit of Jack Nicklaus' major championship record - Tiger Woods finds himself with less and less to accomplish.

Other than the sheer compilation of numbers - and, of course, the pursuit of Jack Nicklaus' major championship record - Tiger Woods finds himself with less and less to accomplish.

Another victory Sunday, this time at the Wachovia Championship, brought his PGA Tour total to 57, a number taken for granted when you consider that just four players in the history of the game have won more. Next on the list, Arnold Palmer at 62.

We all know Woods has won all four of the major championships at least twice. Same for all of the World Golf Championship events.

But Sunday's victory gave Woods a win at a tournament he had previously failed to conquer. Granted, he had only played it twice. Woods has now won nine tournaments once.

"You always want to win tournaments you haven't played, " Woods said after his victory, his third of the year on the PGA Tour. "Then again, you just want to win tournaments. ... This one, considering the field and the golf course, I'm ecstatic to win here."

STILL WORK TO DO: Woods' victory at the Wachovia leaves him with four tournaments he has played at least twice that he has never won. One will have to remain that way, as the International no longer exists. The biggest on the list is the Nissan Open, where Woods played his first PGA Tour event as a 16-year-old amateur in 1992. He has played the tournament near his hometown of Cypress, Calif., 11 times without a victory, losing in a playoff in 1998 to Billy Mayfair. He has played the Barclays Classic four times without winning and the FBR Open three. Woods played the International twice.

HEAD TO HEAD: Woods and Vijay Singh were paired on Saturday, the sixth time since 2003 that they have been together in a weekend round. Woods shot 68 to Singh's 69 during the third round at Wachovia, but Singh has held his own over the past four years. They are separated by just two strokes, with Singh holding the advantage.

Sticking to the LPGA: If what her swing coach, David Leadbetter, said is true, it appears that Michelle Wie will concentrate on women's golf when she returns following a wrist injury. Wie has been criticized for playing in men's events when her results have been poor and while she has failed to win any tournament as a professional.

"She hasn't got any PGA Tour events planned at that moment, " Leadbetter told Sports Ticker. "She's going to commit herself to the LPGA, and play a number of events, and next year she'll probably take up membership."
