SPCA event features animal communicator

A Down on the Farm family event celebrating "Be Kind to Animals" month will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, at the SPCA of Tampa Bay, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo. Games for the kids, balloon animals and a chance to feed and interact with the farm animals and adopt a family pet are scheduled.

Also special session with Animal Communicator Laura Lassiter from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Watch Lassiter enlighten the audience about animal communication and why it is important. An SPCA adoptable pet will be chosen at random to converse with the Lassiter.

The annual Boca Ciega High School Alumni Association's Pirate Golf Tournament is June 2 at the Belleview Biltmore Golf Course, 1501 Indian Rocks Road. Tee time is noon. Mail carriers collect for food banks

Saturday, local letter carriers will be collecting food to help the "Stamp Out Hunger" project. Leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods such as canned soups, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to your mailbox prior to your regular mail delivery time. Letter carriers will collect the food and deliver it to food banks. .

Bowl-a-thon benefits A.F.I.R.E. programs

A.F.I.R.E. and the Father Lopez Council 5737 of the Knights of Columbus will host their 17th annual Bowl-a-thon May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Ten Pin Lanes, 1453 Pasadena Ave.

Festivities will include an auction with items such as autographed photos of Dolly Parton, Faith Hill and Kenny Chesney, limited edition commemorative Elvis Presley wine bottles, a commemorative football of the Buc's Super Bowl win, and more.

Board members will be wearing the A.F.I.R.E. logo shirt and will be available to answer questions about caring for developmentally disabled children. Contact Mrs. Andree Ryan at 525-6608.
