TAMPA - A Tampa woman survived several brushes with death late Monday after her drunken nephew ran her over with a van, said Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

Neighbors told deputies they heard Yadira Moreno, 22, and Jose Luis Moreno, 20, yelling at each other about midnight Monday.

Jose Luis Moreno smashed two windows in the front of 1250 Skipper Road, where he and Yadira Moreno live in neighboring apartments. He got into her husband's van.

As she crossed the street to get to her own car, her nephew tried to kill her, a witness told deputies.

It went like this, according to Carter:

The van hit Yadira Moreno.

She fell underneath, clinging to the undercarriage so the rear tires wouldn't run her over.

The van dragged her 62 feet and stopped.

The 172-pound man got out.

He punched and kicked his aunt, trapped under the van.

Then he got back into the car, put it in reverse and dragged her another 15 feet.

A witness called deputies.

Somehow, Yadira Moreno didn't require hospitalization for her injuries, Carter said.

She was treated at the scene for scrapes, cuts and road rash.

Jose Moreno faces charges of attempted murder, battery and criminal mischief.

He was held without bond at the Orient Road Jail.
