A note to our online readers

By CHRISTINE MONTGOMERY
Published May 10, 2007

Dear tampabay.com readers:

We wanted to give you a heads up on some changes coming early next week:

  • A new way to get around: You’ll be able to see everything that’s inside tampabay.com by rolling your mouse over the blue navigation links at the top of every page.
  • A new “News” section, where we’ll update the day’s most important stories around the clock.
  • The redesigned news section will share the look and feel of tampabay.com, but you’ll still find a list of stories from that day’s St. Petersburg Times, as well as an image of the day’s front page.

So what’s the difference between tampabay.com and our newspaper site, sptimes.com? tampabay.com is our portal to everything Tampa Bay. It combines news and information from the Times, our free daily tbt*/Tampa Bay Times, and you – the stories and opinions you share through itsyourtimes.com and our blogs. tampabay.com emphasizes local over global, and we want to provide you with the most comprehensive listings of things to do in the area.

Now, there is one thing that’s not changing: our commitment to delivering you accurate information when you want it.

We hope you’ll take a moment next week to tell us what you think. E-mail us at comments@tampabay.com.

Christine Montgomery is Managing Editor/tampabay.com.

Grrr!!! I don't like your new online look but guess you're just wanting people in the Tampa Bay area to subscribe to your paper. I get more from the Tampa Tribune online. Sorry!!
by Conrad 05/15/07 01:52 PM
I don't like it, Christine. I'm also a home subscriber and like the quality and national reputation of the "paper" paper. Locking the "news" into the entertainment cateory just seems to tell us news junkies that you're going the way of Murdock, etc.

I very much dislike the new design. I want St. Petersburg Times in my paper, not Tampabay.com. Harder to navigate with all the drop downs. Today there's only one story in South St. Pete. Not as user friendly.
by Cindy 05/14/07 08:29 PM
I HATE it!The first thing i do is get coffee and fire up my 'puter and log onto Tampabay.com. I think the new design is way more complicated and is NOT user friendly! I liked it better before. If it aint broke dont fix it!! TBO somebody??!?

I've been reading SPT since I could read.Switched to online a couple of years back. The more "the newspaper" is embedded in TBO, the worse it gets. These scroll-over ads popping up lately are about to push me over the edge.I agree, prestige is waning.

will you be bringing back the horoscopes?
by Jacques 05/12/07 06:13 AM
I'm a Can. Snowbird ( 9y. in Spete.)I'm flying back in middle ofJune to replace all floors and carpets in my house. I rely on SPT on-line for wx. condition and news there. It is important for me to read SPT news while planning my return (4-5 weeks) wx

The SPT online is the first place I go as soon as I boot my pc up in the morning. I, as many others, have moved where the SPT is not delivered and as a REAL Hernando Countian, this is my way to stay up with the happenings in my home town area.

Cool
by Bob 05/11/07 12:29 PM
Maybe someone will pay attention to detail and update the local sections-it's Friday and South Pinellas still shows the Wednesday stories.Lazy or just incompetent?
by Jim 05/11/07 11:35 AM
Will you finally include RSS Feeds for your news stories???
by Sally 05/11/07 09:50 AM
Maybe this one will be published more frequently. Two days later and South Pinellas still says 5/9.
by Barbara 05/11/07 09:23 AM
I read the SPT page because I don't like the layout of the Tampabay.com. I agree with Mike. I want to read the St. Pete Times not the Tampa anything. Boo Hiss SPT! I didn't like the changes to the newspaper either. Soon I won't look at either.

The coming up changes seem very good to me. I'm a European spending 2 months every year in Pinellas and being "homesick" for FL the rest of the year. I read sptimes on the computer every day. These changes will certainly make reading more convenient.

si habla espanol? we are hard workers too......
by Mike 05/11/07 01:33 AM
I think its a mistake to drop the ST. Pete trademark from your news. I trust St.Petersburg times as a brand, Rebranding as tampabay, or tampa anything diminishes your prestige.
by Dave 05/10/07 06:58 PM
I use the internet like I breathe. I will say that sptimes.com is an excellent resource, while I haven't clicked on tbo.com in ages. It's impossible to surf that site, and good luck finding an article you read in that day's paper.
by Cathy 05/10/07 05:37 PM
Big THANKS to y'all for "thinking" of us online readers...it's appreciated !
by Maggie 05/10/07 05:05 PM
As a transplant back to the North, I utilize your site to keep up on Tampa news. I appreciate the continious improvements you've made over the years to the site.
by James 05/10/07 04:33 PM
Over the past few years, sptimes.com has made many changes for the better, while tbo.com continually gets worse. Keep up the good work!
by Bob R 05/10/07 02:34 PM
Sound like nice updates, especially the navigation link change.....
by Vinny 05/10/07 02:26 PM
Under sub-sections like Tampa Bay under Politics can you please prefix the article summary with the county or city the article will relate to? It would make finding relevant stories easier before clicking to read them.
by JC 05/10/07 11:48 AM
I hope it will be easier to read than the paper. Changes to weekends only since hate the new format and the web is easier to read.
by benjamin 05/10/07 11:44 AM
i truly miss the live photos of tampa and st. pete and clearwater. please bring them back.
by frani 05/10/07 11:18 AM
Since moving from St. Pete this is the first place I go to on my computer every day so appreciate anything that will make it more convenient!!! Thanks
