Artfully putting fun in museum fundraiser

Art collecting is usually a very focused activity: See a work you love and buy it if you can. The Tampa Museum of Art mixes the process up a little with its fundraiser, "From Our Wall to Your Wall."

What you buy here is a $500 ticket that entitles you to select a work of art from a collection of 160 donated by collectors, galleries, businesses and artists.

But wait! There's more!

When you arrive at the museum for the party, which is from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 600 N Ashley Drive, you will draw a number between 1 and 160 that determines the order in which the art is selected. The good news is that even if you draw the high card, you will still get something nice since all have been valued at at least $500. And you'll get a really nice time with music, heavy hors d'oeuvres and open bar. And you'll be contributing to the museum.

Among the artists represented are Robert Rauschenberg, Alexander Calder, Harrison Covington, Frank Stella, Miriam Shapiro, Burk Uzzle, Theo Wujcik, Bruce Marsh, Erte, and Alice Aycock. For information, call (813) 274-7365.
