Pinellas County's clarinet quartet, Licorice Schtick, gives a concert at 7:30 Friday night.

The clarinet may be the ultimate crossover instrument. No less a virtuoso than Benny Goodman played not just jazz and swing but also Mozart. Continuing the tradition is Licorice Schtick, a Pinellas County clarinet quartet – from left, Pete Temko, David Irwin, Larry Kleinfeld and John Creveling – that covers the musical waterfront. The group's second CD, Schtick 2 It, is an eclectic affair with repertoire ranging from arrangements of songs by the Beatles and Duke Ellington to John Harbison's Trio Sonata to Georgia On My Mind.

Licorice Schtick gives a concert at 7:30 Friday night at the St. Petersburg College Music Center, 6605 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Free. (727) 319-9164.
