Teen is accused of shooting into a home

TEEN IS ACCUSED OF SHOOTING INTO A HOME
A 16-year-old Spring Hill boy was arrested Thursday after he fired several shots into a rival's house, Hernando deputies say. John Thomas Pietri II faces charges of discharging a firearm in public after he shot from a car into a house occupied by an 18-year-old Spring Hill man, authorities say. The two were involved in an altercation days earlier. The incident is under investigation.
Help needed for Mother-Son Day
Hernando County Recreation needs volunteers to help with the Mother-Son Day in the Park, which has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19 at Anderson Snow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Road. Volunteers are needed to work between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., either for the full five hours or any part of that time frame. Those interested are asked to call Marie at 540-6359. Tickets for the event are no longer available.
Imagine: Children who make dinner
Cooking classes for children will be offered this summer through the Hernando County Recreation Department. Chef Trish will provide classes to children from 3 to 18 in various age groups. Participants will learn basic cooking skills, table setting, menu planning, healthy choices and the food pyramid. Classes will begin in June and will be offered for three hours a day for one week at the Recreation Department, 205 E Fort Dade Ave. The cost is $100 for the week. Do right thing with hazardous waste
The Hernando County Commission and the Solid Waste and Recycling Division will sponsor a household hazardous waste collection day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the south entrance to the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St. The waste will be collected by EQ of Florida Inc. There is no charge to county residents for disposal of their own hazardous waste. Small businesses will be required to pay at the same rate as the county's contract, with payment made to EQ of Florida at the time of service. Prices for hazardous chemical removal and disposal are available at the Solid Waste and Recycling Division, 14450 Landfill Road. For information, call Jeff Howley at 754-4906.
